Social Butterfly 2019 Year-End Reflection

Social Butterfly 2019 Year-End Reflection

The Social Butterfly Team wants to thank you all for your amazing support. 2019 was a big year for us. Founder, Victoria Castillo, decided she wanted to grow Social Butterfly and sought out to build a team of women to contribute views on motherhood, spirituality, networking, fitness and self-care all aimed towards empowering women. In April of 2019 the Social Butterfly team was created with the addition of Leslie Davalos, Mari Garcia, Risa Garcia and Sandra (Sandy) Hernandez. The Social Butterfly Fab Five was eager and ready to grow Social Butterfly and quickly got to posting, blogging and planning.

May – Official Website Launches

In May we launched our website with our first blog by Risa Garcia, Never Apologize for Being Chingona, which was followed up by more blogs on fitness, travel, lifestyle, self-care and more. Shout out to our tech and design savvy Mari Garcia for doing such an amazing job on our website. If you haven’t had a chance be sure to visit to access some great content!

July – Social Butterfly Women’s Empowerment Movement Event

On Saturday, July 27th, 2019, Social Butterfly successfully hosted our first event! The Social Butterfly Women’s Empowerment Movement event turned out so much better than we could have ever imagined. Our panel consisted of 5 inspirational women, all from the Rio Grande Valley, who have stories of perseverance, determination and success. Judge Helen Delgadillo, an accomplished Attorney, Rita Garcia, an educator for over 40 years and community leader, Lola Linarte, an international model, actress, TV host, and creative, Iliasis Muniz, a self-made photographer and business owner, Renea Perez, owner of the Bod Squad gym, all provided incredible success stories that inspired us all to reach for our dreams. The team also arranged silent auctions to raise funds for two local mothers from our hometown to support their children’s fight against cancer. We are so thankful for everyone who came out to support our event including our incredible sponsors and vendors.

Facebook Lives

One of our breakout highlights of the year was our lives. It has been one of our best ways to create engagement for the group. This year we had amazing women go live with makeup tutorials, information on mental and physical health, advice on entrepreneurship and success, guidance for self-care and more. For many it was their first time going live and some were nervous but all were amazing and it was wonderful to see women interacting positively with one another lifting each other up with advice, great questions and positive comments.

Welcome to Womanhood

In 2019 we started our ongoing effort called Welcome to Womanhood. The Social Butterfly Team started collecting small cosmetic bags, like those from Ipsy and feminine products including pads, tampons and wipes. Thanks to help from all who donated we have been able to collect hundreds of bags and feminine products to fill over 300 bags to donate to elementary and middle schools to provide them to young girls who are unprepared when they start their cycle at school. This is a cause we will continue to focus on, If you would like to donate to our cause please contact us at

October – Paint the Town Gold

On October 19th, 2019, Social Butterfly had the honor of hosting Paint the Town GOLD to help raise funds for Gabriella’s Smile Foundation.  We take great pride in all of the events we host, but this one was extra dear to our hearts because we knew we’d be benefiting the families of children battling pediatric brain cancer (DIPG).  Gabriella’s family will continue to be there for families affected by DIPG the way others were once there for them.  Feel free to click HERE or follow the link below to support their incredible cause.

December – Toys for Tots

We ended the year teaming up with Toys for Tots and are happy to say we collected 150 toys. Special thanks to Stephanie Sias for teaming up with us with a Zumbathon as well as Box 903 Sports Lounge for arranging such special events to help us collect toys.

Social Butterfly Girl Gang 2000 Strong!

This year we were so excited for our Girl Gang to reach 2000 members on our Facebook Group!! Special thanks to your support of Social Butterfly and inviting more women to join our women’s empowerment group. Our group continues to grow for women who seek to engage in a group that exclusively focuses on female positivity and inspiration.

The Brunch-fast Club

Some of the best times we had this year came in the planning. The Fab Five quickly formed a strong bond while coming together to develop our vision for Social Butterfly. One of our favorite ways to plan is over brunch with a pitcher or two (or three) of mimosas. As the food and spirits flow, so do the ideas. There’s just something about creative and passionate women (who are away from their kids) coming together to exchange and encourage thoughts and concepts all aimed at a common goal. Through the laughs and great brainstorming together we have accomplished some great event and content planning. We are so excited to bring you even more in 2020!
