Tis’ the Season of Giving- Social Butterfly X Toys for Tots

Here at Social Butterfly we are all about teaming up and networking amongst our friends, family, & even complete strangers; it is part of our purpose and our mission. Earlier this month, I was thrilled to receive a call from my good friend, Staff Sergeant Leza! He thought it would be a great idea for Social Butterfly to team up with the U.S Marine Corps Toys for Tots! Naturally, the Team and I were ecstatic to give back to the community once again! We have a platform and audience of women that is growing at a rapid pace, and this group is just as eager to give back as we are!

The Mission

For those of you who may not be familiar, Toys for Tots was created by Major Bill Hendricks. One Christmas his wife Diane made Raggedy Ann dolls and asked Major Hendricks to find an organization to donate them to. He struggled with finding the right place to donate the dolls so he decided to create his own! Having big ties to Hollywood in California, he was able to raise over five thousand toys and from then on was committed to starting his own organization: Toys for Tots. He decided his organization would be run by United States Marines to give back all over our country to needy children during Christmas.

The Marines begin their mission in October and their goal is to receive as many New Unwrapped Toys by mid-December. They work hard to coordinate and set up events throughout the community. Businesses set up drop-off locations, organizations host toy drives, and individual donations are given. Volunteers are key to bringing it all together! The marines depend on volunteers for toy separation, counting and distribution. Be sure to look up your local Toys for tots and see how you can get Involved next season.

Fun Fact: The Toys for Tots logo was drawn out by Mr. Walt Disney himself!

Two events & One cause- Burn the Bird Zumbathon

As soon as we posted on our Facebook page about working with Toys for Tots the response from the ladies was phenomenal. Stephanie Sias (owner of Stephanie’s cheesecake) said how can I join in cause I love to give back. Not only is she a talented baker but also a Zumba instructor. She said what if we host an event and the entry is an new unwrapped toy. I quickly responded that the Team was all about it and what a fun way to give back. She reached out to friends to help host along with her. Our other Zumba Instructor was Myra Perez from Girls Gym was so kind to lend time to our event as well. The City of Port Isabel had the perfect open spot to host our event.

We all had a fantastic work out cause let me tell ya, Zumba is no joke. We all felt it the next day! However, so much fun to get a great work out all while dancing to some good jams. Birth the Bird has great turn, lots of toys & love from the community. We love the continuous support from our hometown.

Box 903- Toy Drive

To close out our season of giving, we decided to partner with Box 903 to host a Toy Drive event. This upscale neighborhood sports lounge had no hesitation to lend us a space to host our San Antonio event! As soon as we mentioned Toys for Tots, they generously asked how they could help! Our hostest with the mostest & bartender for the day was Veronica Hernandez. She made sure we had everything we needed to launch a successful event and delicious drinks to pair with our appetizers.

The locals did not disappoint, once again, and brought lots of donations to give back to the cause. We’re thrilled to say we were able to fill all our boxes with toys. We had great swag bags for our guests as well as a raffle. It truly was the perfect atmosphere for a good time with friends! Be sure to check them out the next time you’re in Hwy 281 North area in SA!

We’d like to thank SSgt Jaramillo for allowing us to represent his campaign this year in the San Antonio area, and for being so easy to work with. Together we were able to collect 150 toys in total! We hope to grow our partnership with this magical nonprofit and surpass that number in the years to come. Thank you to all our followers for believing in all our endeavors and always being so eager and willing to give back with us. Until our next event, your Social Butterfly Team is signing off for 2019 and we are ecstatic for what’s to come in 2020! Happy New Year!

Your Team,
Victoria, Mari, Leslie, Sandy, & Risa

  1. I don’t know if it’s just me or if perhaps everybody else experiencing problems with your site.

It appears as if some of the written text in your content are running off the screen. Can somebody else please provide feedback and let me know if
this is happening to them too? This might be a issue with my internet browser because I’ve had this happen before.
    Many thanks

  2. Long time supporter, and thought I’d drop a comment.

Your wordpress site is very sleek – hope you don’t
mind me asking what theme you’re using? (and don’t mind if I steal it?
    :P)

I just launched my site –also built in wordpress like yours–
but the theme slows (!) the site down quite a bit.

In case you have a minute, you can find it by searching for
“royal cbd” on Google (would appreciate any feedback) – it’s still
    in the works.

Keep up the good work– and hope you all take care of yourself during the coronavirus
    scare!
